Black cohosh is a perennial plant native to North America. The roots and rhizomes are widely used in the treatment of menopausal symptoms and menstrual dysfunction. Black cohosh was originally used by Native American peoples in the treatment of many conditions, especially gynecologic disorders. 
Its roots and rhizomes can also serve as a replacement for dandruff shampoo. There are also dandruff shampoo that contain this ingredient, but this dandruff scalp treatment is not typically recommended for pregnant women.
