DNJ is a natural alkaloid found in the mulberry tree (Morus alba L.). It is mainly distributed in the leaves, roots and branches of mulberry, among which the content of DNJ in mulberry leaves is higher (about 1/1000 of dry weight). Therefore, mulberry leaves have become the main source of natural DNJ. DNJ is the main functional ingredient of mulberry leaf in lowering blood glucose. Among various natural products, mulberry leaf is recognized as a kind of food material with the effect of regulating blood glucose. Since ancient times, it has been used in clinical practice as a kind of traditional Chinese medicine to treat diabetes.
