Kelps are large seaweeds (algae) belonging to the brown algae (Phaeophyceae) in the order Laminariales.   There are about 30 different genera.   Because of its high concentration of iodine, brown kelp (Laminaria) has been used to treat goiter, since medieval times.  Kelp is nature's best source of iodine.   Laminaria species contain large amounts of soluble and insoluble fibers that have laxative effects in the intestines.

kelp (Laminaria japonica) can extract fucoxanthin, polysaccharides and other components.     Fucoxanthin is a natural pigment in the carotenoid xanthophyll, which is widely found in various algae, marine phytoplankton, shellfish and others.     It has anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, weight loss and neuroprotective effects, and can increase the content of ARA (arachidonic acid)and DHA(docosahexaenoic acid) in mice.     It is widely used in medicine, skin care, beauty products as well as health care products.   The polysaccharides in kelp can inhibit tumor, improve renal function, lower blood pressure and lipid.
