Epazote is an annual perennial herb, whose fruit contains effective insect repellent components, so it is used to repel mosquitoes. Epazote seed extract's appearance is an earthy yellow fine powder, which is often soluble in water. The main components include volatile oil, rosin carvone and schizonone. 

Epazote seed extract is used as a natural pesticide, because it contains essential oil which has fumigating effect on grain storage pests, and can be used to kill the housefly, cabbage insect, phyllotreta striolata fabricius etc.
