Like astaxanthin and tea polyphenols, rosemary extract is a terpene phenolic antioxidant. The main antioxidant components are Rosmarinic Acid, Carnosic Acid, and Carnosol, which are easily soluble in alcohol , so it is usually extracted by solution of alcohol with water

The data shows that the antioxidant effect of rosemary in different oils is about 1 to 6 times stronger than butylated hydroxyanisole (a common artificial antioxidant).

 

Compared to natural vitamin E and tocotrienols, rosemary is with better stability. Experimental data shows that the antioxidant stability of rosemary is 1.5 times and 1.2 times respectively of both under the same conditions. 


The benefit of using rosemary in skin care products is that it prolongs the shelf life of the product, replaces many artificial antioxidants, and reduces the content of preservatives in the formula.

 

Natural polyphenol antioxidants extracted from rosemary have the characteristics of high antioxidant performance, good thermal stability, low production cost and natural non-toxicity, and avoid toxic and side effects on the human body. Its antioxidant effect is 2-4 times of synthetic antioxidants BHA and BHT, better than Vc, 1-2 times of tea polyphenols, and 1-2 times of TBHQ. It has an incomparable advantage than the other traditional synthetic antioxidants.
